McFarland warehouse goes up in flames

The Kern County Fire Department is still investigating what started a two-alarm fire Thursday afternoon at a vacant warehouse in McFarland.

About 30 firefighters were called to the blaze in the 200 block of Industrial Street, according to a fire department news release.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the approximately 11,000-square-foot building and a second alarm was called because of the high temperature and the building's size and construction, firefighters said.

Firefighters controlled the fire in just more than an hour but crews were anticipated to remain at the scene of the fire into the evening to mop-up, the news release said. Damages were estimated to be $50,000 but there were no reported injuries.
