By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A man who the California Highway Patrol says had been drinking was struck by a car Wednesday night when he walked onto Oildale Drive.

It happened at 8:10 p.m. as a Honda Civic driven by 65-year-old Connie Salas of Bakersfield was heading south on Oildale Drive from Roberts Lane at about 35 mph.

Officers said Daniel Collins, 58, of Bakersfield walked into the road and was hit. He was taken to Kern Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

The CHP reported that Collins had been drinking before he was hit, "but his level of impairment is unknown," according to a CHP news release.
