CHP investigating crash involving deputy

BY BREAKING NEWS BLOG

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a crash between a Kern County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle and a semi that sent a deputy to the hospital Friday night.

Deputy Jesse Harker, a five-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office, was taken to Kern Medical Center via helicopter with moderate injuries, but was set to be released from the hospital Saturday, according to Sheriff's Lt. Dana Albro.

Harker was on patrol duty when his vehicle was broad sided on the driver's side by an 18-wheeler at Oak Creek Road and Koch Street in Mojave, Albro said.

CHP and the Kern County Fire Department responded to the crash. Albro said the patrol vehicle was likely totalled and that the doors had to be cut off the deputy's vehicle following the crash.

The lieutenant said she did not know the circumstances of the incident, but confirmed that Harker is not currently on administrative leave.
