A 35-year-old woman suffered major injuries about 4:20 p.m. Friday after she was hit on northbound Interstate 5 while inspecting damage to her car from a prior wreck.
Jennifer K. Lerma was headed north on I5 when she was involved in one collision and her Nissan Sentra came to rest partially blocking one lane of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
She got out of her car to look at the damage and was hit by another driver trying to avoid her Nissan.
Sean S. Massih, 24, steered his Toyota Prius toward the center divider around Lerma's Nissan. As he was maneuvering around the Nissan, Lerma got out of her car and Massih hit her. Lerma was thrown into the middle of the center divider.
She was taken to Kern Medical Center with major injuries where she was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence for the first collision.
