Fast driver loses control of car, fatally hits power pole near Buttonwillow

A 25-year-old Maricopa man driving too fast along State Road 33 was killed Friday night when he lost control and hit a power pole, authorities reported.

A California Highway Patrol news release says the man, identified by Kern County Sheriff's Office as Nicholas James Taylor, was driving a Honda Civic "at a high rate of speed" northbound on State Road 33 in Maricopa when the collision occurred at about 11:10 p.m.

He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car, causing fatal injuries, the release states. The CHP said the collision is under investigation.
