Two injured in crash on Highway 178

By BREAKING NEWS BLOG

Two people were injured Monday morning in a crash on Highway 178 about a half mile east of the mouth of the Kern River Canyon.

Kenneth E. Glaze, 26, of Corona, suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, according to California Highway Patrol officers. Peter J. Ortiz, 32, of Corona, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Kern Medical Center.

Glaze was driving a truck east on Highway 178 at 7:25 a.m. with Ortiz as a passenger while Ridgecrest resident Stephanie Warfield, 23, was driving a 2010 Honda Civic west on the highway, officers said. Glaze allowed the right side of the truck to hit the mountainside and lost control.

The truck traveled across the eastbound lane into the westbound lane and sideswiped the Civic, officers said. The truck then left the roadway and overturned down the embankment north of the road.

Warfield was uninjured.
