On Friday, the Kern County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Bakersfield Police Department, the Kern County Probation Department, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Parole Office and the California Highway Patrol, conducted a directed enforcement operation in two areas of west Bakersfield.
Both areas were targeted due to a significant increase in reported property crimes, including residential burglaries, vehicle burglaries and auto thefts, over the last year. The investigation was also the result of numerous complaints that were received from citizens living in these neighborhoods, including citizens involved in Neighborhood Watch programs in both city and county jurisdictions.
The directed enforcement operation was conducted after a three-month investigation into ongoing criminal activities in these areas. During the investigation 62 individuals who were either on probation or parole were identified living in these areas. These individuals were believed to possibly be involved in reported crimes in the area or have a high risk for repeat offenses. The operation consisted of parole and probation contacts, saturation patrol, and undercover surveillance of ongoing criminal activity. In addition, about 60 locations were searched.
