Motorist accused of throwing meth from his vehicle as deputies give chase

By BREAKING NEWS BLOG

A motorist threw about a half pound of methamphetamine from his vehicle as deputies chased him east of Tehachapi early Thursday.

Deputies said Michael Pate, 27, was arrested on suspicion of drug offenses, attempting to destroy evidence, evading a peace officer and resisting arrest.

The Ridgecrest man was contacted by deputies at 1:28 a.m. at Love's Travel Stop on East Tehachapi Boulevard. Deputies said Pate, who is on probation, refused to comply with deputies and drove away.

Deputies chased him and the pursuit ended on Highway 58, at exit 151 and East Tehachapi Boulevard. Deputies said they located the discarded meth along the roadway.
