The father of a Taft toddler who tested positive for methamphetamine has pleaded no contest to willful cruelty to a child.
In exchange for Christopher Davidson's plea, prosecutors have dismissed charges of being an accessory to a crime and obstructing a peace officer, according to court records. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 14.
The child's mother, 38-year-old Gina Barrios, pleaded no contest in November to willful cruelty to a child. Her sentencing date was not immediately available.
Davidson and Barrios were arrested in late August after their 2-year-old daughter was taken to a hospital Aug. 15 when she stared having seizure-like symptoms, Taft police said. A urine test at the hospital came back positive for meth.
The child was released from the hospital and taken into custody by Child Protective Services, police said. The couple's home in the 300 block of Woodrow Street was searched, but no signs of drug use were found.
