Suspect found unresponsive in downtown jail expected to live

At 6:19 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 800 block of South Union Avenue regarding a person acting strangely.
Deputies found Abraham Bains, 27, in a field wearing only pajama bottoms. Bains displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Bains was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and obstructing or delaying a peace officer and was placed in a single cell at the downtown jail, where he was monitored. At 11:30 a.m., he was found breathing but unresponsive in his cell with white foam coming out of his mouth.
Bains was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment. It was at first thought he might not survive, but KMC staff ahs said his condition has improved.
An investigation is ongoing.
