A middle-aged man who had been one of three victims of an assault last week died Saturday morning.
At 7:29 a.m., Barto Jestice, 55, was reported dead at a residence in the 500 block of Real Road Saturday, one week after an incident at the same home in which he and two others were assaulted, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the death and the earlier assault, which was Jan. 5, were related, police said.
An autopsy is planned.
Darius Goodie, 30, of Bakersfield, was arrested Jan. 6 and charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with that case. He remains in custody at Kern County Jail.
