One woman was killed and her passenger injured when the vehicle they were riding in drifted off Elk Hills Road and overturned between 11:30 and midnight Saturday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Jamie Renee Tweedy, 23, of Taft, died at the scene. Her passenger, Tevis Stephens, 24, of Buttonwillow, suffered moderate injuries and was air lifted to Kern Medical Center.
Tweedy was driving her silver 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Elk Hills Road at an unknown speed when it drifted off the pavement and rolled.
Neither Tweedy and Stephens were wearing seatbelts and were both thrown from the Jeep.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have been a contributing factor, according to the CHP.
The investigation is ongoing.
