Motorcyclist suffers major injuries in hit-and-run crash

By BREAKING NEWS BLOG

A 90-year-old motorcyclist suffered major injuries Monday after being struck by a van that witnesses say ran a stop sign in a crash that occurred east of Beale Avenue and north of East California Avenue.

Bakersfield police said the van was later found abandoned nearby in the 1100 block of Delores Street and has been impounded. Police are searching for 33-year-old Armando Cortez for questioning regarding his involvement, if any, in the crash.

Cortez, of Bakersfield, is described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall, stocky build, last seen wearing a light-colored baseball cap, light-colored long-sleeved shirt and dark pants.

Police said the motorcyclist was riding east on East Truxtun Avenue when he was hit by a 1999 gray Dodge Caravan traveling south on Miller Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
