A Lake Isabella woman and a Caliente man were killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision that closed both lanes on Highway 178 near Paradise Cove for more than two hours.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office said Theresa Ann Bell, 48, died just after 2:30 p.m. at Kern Valley Hospital.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Bell’s vehicle struck a second car driven by a 65-year-old man. He was not identified by the CHP pending notification of relatives. He died about 2:45 p.m. at Kern Medical Center.

The 1:29 p.m. crash occurred at Kissack Bay in Mountain Mesa. It closed the eastbound lane of Highway 178 at Yankee Canyon Drive, and the westbound lane at Mobile Drive, according to CHP officers.
