Deputies arrest Bakersfield man on suspicion of attempted murder, torture, drug sales

The Kern County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 33-year-old Bakersfield man on suspicion of attempted murder, torture and possession of narcotics for sale.

A news release issued by the department Sunday said deputies took Lucas Webby into custody after obtaining a search warrant for his residence in the 400 block of Poplar Avenue.

On Friday, sheriff's deputies went to the residence to investigate a report of domestic violence, the release stated. It said they discovered the victim had been "punched, kicked and strangled as well as hit repeatedly with a baseball hat," adding that the assault took place over a two-day period.

During the execution of the search warrant, the release stated, Webby was found hiding in a bedroom closet. He resisted arrest but was taken into custody, it said, adding that deputies found methamphetamine and marijuana.

No bail amount has been set.
