Coroner's office identifies woman found dead in garage

    After responding to a call of suspicious circumstances at 909 Vista St. in in east Bakersfield, sheriff's deputies found a body in a detached garage on the property.

A woman found dead in a southeast Bakersfield garage Tuesday was identified Friday as 18-year-old Mia Ramirez of Bakersfield.

The Kern County coroner's office also determined that her death was a homicide.

Kern County sheriff's deputies arrested 20-year-old Eddie David Rivas of Bakersfield in connection with the death Tuesday and he's expected to face one felony count of first-degree murder, Lt. Todd Bishop has said.

He was being held without bail in county jail on a felony count of violating felony parole, according to the sheriff's department's website.

The garage was at a house in the 900 block of Vista Street. Rivas lived there with his mother and her boyfriend, Rivas' brother has said.
