Only one registered sex offender found out of compliance during Sheriff's Office check

Kern County Sheriff's Office personnel found only one registered sex offender who was out of compliance as they conducted "numerous" checks on registered sex offenders over three weeks in late May and early June.

The efforts of the Kern County Sheriff's Office Sexual Assault and Abuse Investigations Unit focused on Oildale and east Bakersfield. All but one of the offenders contacted during the check were in compliance with the registration requirement.

Detectives discovered one man had failed to register after moving from one residence to another, a sheriff's office news release said. They found the man and he went to the Sheriff's Registration Office later that day and updated his registration status, the news release said.
