Apartment fire displaces eight people

Kern County firefighters responded to a structure fire 7:35 a.m. Thursday.
A 1-unit apartment was half-involved with fire and two adjacent structures were also threatened. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which residents reported had started in the laundry area of the apartment.
No one was injured but eight people were displaced. The smoke detectors in the home did not alert the residents to the fire, which caused $100,000 in damage.
