Jury finds defendant not guilty of murder in December 2011 shooting

A jury found a 26-year-old Bakersfield man not guilty of murder Thursday in connection with a shooting outside the Elks Lodge in late December 2011.

Roniele C. Delouth had faced the possibility of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of the murder charge, which included a special circumstance allegation, according to a Kern County Public Defender's office news release. Delouth was instead convicted of the lesser charge of possession of a gun by a felon.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 7, according to court records. Delouth was represented by Deputy Public Defender Benjamin Nkwonta.

Delouth had been charged with killing Jimmy Leon Pollard, who died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, Bakersfield police have said.
