Changes to bakersfield.com homepage
By BdotCOM
This afternoon we launched a few tweaks to the bakersfield.com homepage that include:
- Consolidating some feeds by adding tabs to specific elements, such as combining "Staff Blogs," "Reader Blogs" and "Reviews" (from Inside Guide) in the same area.
- Adding a box highlighting our new and improved e-edition of The Californian. We signed up 300 new subscribers to the e-edition last week, so want to keep that momentum on track.
- Combining the video and photo boxes. You can find video either by clicking on the "video" tab on the Bakersfield Pictures box on the homepage or go to our Multimedia page (www.bakersfield.com/multimedia)
- Adding a thin bar in the upper right with buttons to our mobile site, RSS feeds, newsletter page, Facebook page and Twitter feeds.
- Moving the Staff Tweets to the center section and added a Local Tweets option that pulls in Tweets from others in Bakersfield.
- Adding Local and Southern California traffic feeds. These come from our 661411 mobile site.
We're working to add a widget from our new KernEvents.com calendar site highlighting the top events of the day. That'll be in the right-hand column underneath the "Top Classified Ad" box.
These tweaks will cover us until we launch a complete redesign of the homepage soon.
As always, we welcome constructive feedback, other ideas and warnings about anything that might be broken.
Thanks.
