Capture Kern County photo book goes to press

By BdotCOM

Five months after we first began accepting your submissions, the Capture Kern County photo book has gone the printer. And we must say the proofs look fabulous!

You helped us create what will be a gorgeous hardbound, full-color 128-page book that celebrates the best of Kern County landscapes, landmarks, people, wildlife, activities and more.

Here's how you helped create this work of art:

  • 1,084 different photographers contributed 21,993 photos.
  • The community cast 458,408 votes on photos they liked and didn't like, and shared 14,103 comments on specific photos.
  • You generated 1.4 million page views to the CaptureKernCounty.com website -- proof that an awful lot of people like what you're creating.

The book will be available in early November but you can preorder it through Oct. 14 for only $29.95, a sizable savings off the $39.95 cover price. Can you say "perfect holiday gift"?

We've scheduled a Nov. 4 book release party at Henley's Photo where we'll unveil the book, and award some very nice prizes for the cover photo and grand prize photo. We'd love to show you the book cover but we're keeping it a surprise until the release party.

If you contributed a photo that was accepted into the book, we'll let you know by email the next few days.

And if you missed the window to contribute to the book, no worries. The CaptureKernCounty.com website -- sponsored by The Bakersfield Californian and Tejon Ranch -- will remain live into next year for photo contributions and voting. In fact, we have a "Sunrise Challenge" contest going now through Sept. 30.

So share often, vote often, view often.
