We have good news: It's taken far too long, but the iBookstore has finally published the enhanced iPad version of "March Meet: Bakersfield's Love Affair with Speed, Nitro & Good Times."
This special e-book from The Bakersfield Californian -- also available in Kindle and Nook versions -- documents one of Bakersfield's biggest events, the world-famous March Meet at Auto Club Famoso Raceway. Over its 54 years, the "March Meet" has evolved from the premier event in professional drag racing to the world's top attraction for nostalgia hot rods and dragsters.
The "enhanced" iPad edition contains more than 25 chapters, 12 videos, more than 200 photos and complete results from the 2012 meet.
A scaled-down version suitable for Kindle and Nook e-readers is for sale at the Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites.
And here's a bonus for buyers of any version of the book: log-in codes to a restricted online section featuring more than 20 videos and all the photos. In addition, high-quality versions of those images are available for purchase. You can find that log-in information at the end of the book.

A small team in The Californian newsroom is working on an iPad book chronicling the world-famous March Meet, held annually at Famoso Raceway just north of Bakersfield.

We're continuing to add new features and tweaks to the new BakersfieldCalifornian.com. Here are a few of the latest:

"Capture Kern County" the book debuted at an invite-only release party last week and it's as good a portrait of our region that's ever been published.
-
Five months after we first began accepting your submissions, the Capture Kern County photo book has gone the printer. And we must say the proofs look fabulous!
-
It's taken us awhile but a replica edition of The Bakersfield Californian is now available for the iPad.
-
When we launched CaptureKernCounty.com less a month ago, we expected you to like it. But we've been blown away by how much you love it.

It's been about six months since Monster.com purchased Yahoo HotJobs, our online recruitment partner for the last few years. Since early fall, our recruitment section has carried a HotJobs by Monster brand as we worked on a transition to Monster's software. As of this weekend, we have completed that migration. It's all Monster moving forward.

Did you find something a little wacky with the staff blogs earlier today? Several of you called and emailed, thinking we'd blocked you from commenting. That wasn't the case though.
-
As you may have noticed, we have launched a redesign of our homepage, the first major changes in quite a while.
-
Our partners at Boocoo Auctions are hosting a series of two-hour auctions beginning this afternoon that will benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

This afternoon we launched a few tweaks to the bakersfield.com homepage that include:

It's taken us awhile but we're please to offer a 661411 app for Blackberry smartphones. You can find the app in the Blackberry App World store for $1.99.
The Blackberry app is our second; we launched an iPhone/iPod Touch app earlier this year. And we're working on an Android app that we hope to start selling soon.
We're also working to add "exclusive" content to the apps as well as rework some of what is already there. We're always open to constructive feedback on what you like and what you don't.
