Bakersfield native Kevin Harvick has been known to throw a punch or two as a fierce competitor in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. Now he's taking that love of a good fight to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

No, no, he won't be throwing punches in the ring. Instead, his Kevin Harvick Inc. will manage UFC fighter Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. Harvick's KHI was originally set up to run his race car teams but has since diversified into personal management, with clients that include NASCAR driver Jeff Burton and PGA golfer Jason Gore.

Of the deal, Sports Pro magazine said, "The arrival of Cerrone, 30, marks the firm's first foray into the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). KHI is co-owned by Harvick and his wife DeLana and will be responsible for managing Cerrone's commercial interests, such as attracting sponsors"

Cerrone told USA Today he met Harvick at a race several years ago and a case of beer led to a friendship and then to a business association.

"I was at Texas Motor Speedway, and we were drinking beer with some NASCAR drivers. I didn't know who Kevin Harvick was at the time, but they were handing out Michelob Ultra. I was like, 'Man, who's the Budweiser guy? Let's get that guy over here with some beer.' Kevin was like, 'That's actually me,' and he brought a case out. That's how we met."

Cerrone's record is 20-5-0. His next fight will be Aug. 28 on Fox Sports.
