Bako food, best servers and wrestling on Bakersfield Today
BY LOUIS AMESTOY Californian staff writer lamestoy@bakersfield.com
With the holiday weekend, we had a lot of catching up to on our Bakersfield Today, and there was a lot of interesting stuff going on around Kern County.
First off, wrestling was the big driver of traffic on The Bakersfield Californian network of websites. High school sports writer Zach Ewing blogged live from the CIF-Central Section Yosemite Division championships and that was, by far, the No. 1 driver of traffic on our sites.
Bakersfield High School fared well with titles by Natrelle Demison of Bakersfield at 138 pounds and Maxx Ramirez of Bakersfield at 145 pounds.
We also spent some time discussing a blog posting here on Bakosphere about a new restaurant in Cincinnati called Bakersfield OTR, which specializes in tacos, tequila and whiskey. That post generated huge traffic online and prompted us to ask this question on our Facebook page (post a comment if you're not into Facebook):
"When you think of Bakersfield food, what do you think of?"
And here are some of the Facebook responses:
"I think a place selling booze, tacos, and the Bakersfield sound is representing a rather awesome and fitting theme. I wish them well," wrote Facebook user Seven Bates.
"Wow...Bakersfield is more than a bad tacos. Great food memories in Bakersfield = Basque food. Noriega's and Pyranees - mmmmmm! (sic)," said Carlos Flores
"Bill Lee's Bamboo Chopsticks," wrote Marie Nix.
And, we're not sure we agree with this one, here's a take that Bakersfield has no taste:
"Jack in the box, Mc Donalds, Burger king, little cesars, pizza hut....Not much to choose from," according to Lana Meyerring."
Interesting conversation.
Speaking of food, we also update folks on our "Best Server Contest," and we discuss Roy Ashburn, high-speed rail and a lot of other interesting items on Bakersfield Today.
