Country Music Hall of Fame putting Bakersfield Sound on center stage

The County Music Hall of Fame in Nashville has announced it will open a Bakersfield Sound exhibit in March 2012.
Dwight Yoakam will narrate "The Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and California Country." The exhibit will run from March 24, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2013.
Buck Owens and Merle Haggard will be central figures in the exhibit, but the museum said visitors should expect much more.
"Including publishing houses, recording studios, booking and management agencies and performance venues, the exhibit will focus on the Bakersfield music businesses that evolved in the 1960s, particularly Buck Owens Enterprises, the music empire owned and operated by Owens," a museum news release said. "It will also explore the enduring impact of the Bakersfield Sound on subsequent generations of musicians, singers and songwriters, from country-rock pioneers the Flying Burrito Brothers to Dwight Yoakam and many others."
The museum also plans accompa nying features that include "an ongoing series of school and family programs, including live performances, panel discussions, films, instrument demostations and more."
