Diabetes walk Saturday, free shots for kids throughout the month
By The Bakersfield Californian
JDRF Central Valley is sharing the stories of children living with diabetes and walking to raise awareness during National Diabetes Awareness month.
The local JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes will pound the pavement at Yokuts Park Saturday morning, said Allison Perkins-Thomas, branch manager for JDRF Central Valley.
Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Participants can register online at www.walk.jdrf.org by searching California and selecting the Bakersfield walk. Walkers who raise at least $100 will receive a free T-shirt.
Perkins-Thomas said the walk will be a great opportunity for people to learn about diabetes and what JDRF does. Throughout the month, the Diabetes Diaries photo gallery will be on display at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and the hospital will be lit blue, she added. People can also visit Motor City Lexus and Buick to test drive for a cure now through Thanksgiving, Perkins-Thomas said. Just say you would like to test drive for JDRF and the business will donate $25 to JDRF in your name.
