Omni Family Health will break ground next week on a new site in Oildale.

The 15,600-square-foot clinic located at 210 N. Chester Ave. will boast 22 exam and consultation rooms when it is finished, according to a news release. A few of the services the site will offer are primary and specialty health care, behavioral health and a pharmacy.

Omni, a federally qualified health center that provides care to the under served and uninsured, already has 17 sites throughout Kern County.

The new building will be paid for in part by a grant from the 2009 stimulus bill via the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources Services Administration. The project will cost about $5.75 million and the site is expected to open late next year or early in 2015.

A groundbreaking ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Optimal Hospice Care is seeking new volunteers for the new year.

The hospice care provider is recruiting home and facility visitors, certified pet therapy teams, veterans and other compassionate people to brighten the lives of hospice patients and their loved ones, according to a news release. Optimal will offer volunteer orientation trainings in January and February.

To volunteer, call 716-4000 or email rfrankhouser@optimalcares.com.
