Ryan Lochte on the 2016 Olympics, Reality TV, and Finding a Girlfriend

By Parade Magazine
Ryan Lochte could have easily hung up his swimming trunks after his impressive gold medal-garnering performance at the London Olympics. His celebrity-worthy good looks, penchant for fashion, and All-American good ole' boy charm will keep his coffers lined for year. But instead of cashing in completely, he says he still has plenty to accomplish in the pool.

While training for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he has given one allowance to newfound fame: a TV crew has been following his every move for his E! reality show What Would Ryan Lochte Do? (premieres April 21 at 10 p.m.).

The Olympian, who recently teamed up with Nissan for its Endurance campaign, answered some of Parade.com's question about his future— and his dating life!

What do you hope to accomplish in Brazil in 2016?
"I want to come home with more medals. Hopefully gold medals!"

What's the most surprising thing we will learn about you from What Would Ryan Lochte Do?
"Maybe not surprising, but I think it's a really real look into my life. It was a passion project for me, it shows what I am passionate about: swimming, which is my number one focus right now, my family, who mean the world to me, and my friends. I did this show because I want to give swimming the spotlight it deserves. Swimming is the most watched Olympic event but we only see it every four years. I want it to be in living rooms everywhere on a consistent basis, like the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc."

Part of the show is about your search for a girlfriend. What's a girl got to do to get your attention? And are you ready to settle down?
"I do eventually want to settle down but I am focusing on 2016 right now. I like a girl who can hold her own and who can laugh at herself. I think that's sexy."

What do you want to do after swimming?
"I'm not even thinking about that right now. Swimming is my focus and that's all I can think about right now. One step at a time."

We all know the ways you physically stay in shape but what about mentally? What do you do to keep your mind in that competitive mode?
"I surround myself with people who really understand and love me. I think that's the best thing I can do. You have to stay positive, because if you don't, you lose focus. I can't risk that right now."
