Fine wine and jazz perfect cure for the Friday night blues

Bakersfield College Foundation's 2014 Red & White Wine & Food Festival on Friday will offer tastings from some of the most respected vineyards, paired with hors d'oeuvres prepared by the college's Culinary Arts program.

The grass area north of Memorial Stadium will transform into a wine garden, complete with live jazz music from the Bakersfield College Jazz Ensemble.

Wines from 48 wineries will be available, with new wineries such as Villa San Juliet, Mazzei, and Tejon Ranch bringing their new offerings for guests to sample. The event, founded by Bakersfield College Foundation Executive Director Michael Stepanovich, is the last for Stepanovich, who retires from his role in June.

"The highlight of the festival is the opportunity for attendees to taste wines from throughout California, in one Bakersfield location," said Stepanovich. "My favorite part is seeing people connecting and reconnecting with Bakersfield College, seeing them enjoying themselves, and learning more about California wines in the process."

Proceeds from the festival support scholarships for Bakersfield College students.
