By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
The latest national ranking to make prominent mention of Bakersfield has to do with credit card debt -- and this time the news is good, even if the evidence is thin.
According to a personal finance account management website called Manilla.com, the Bakersfield area has the nation's third lowest average credit card balance, at $1,267.24, behind the Harlingen, Texas area ($1,158.43), and Binghamton, N.Y. ($1,191.92.
The ranking is hardly authoritative. Data used to determine the ranking came only from Manilla customers and their accounts. The company had no historical data to show whether local credit card debt had increased or decreased.
