This week's 13th annual Kern County Economic Summit has sold out.
The event's organizer, Kern Economic Development Corp., attributed part of this year's strong ticket sales and "substantial increase" in sponsorships to a speaker lineup led by former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
The summit runs from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at DoubleTree by Hilton, 3100 Camino Del Rio Court.
A Bakersfield event staffing company expects to hire more than 200 people as part of its partnership with Kern County Raceway Park.
The company, Starstruck Entertainment Services LLC, hopes to meet its future employees at a job fair set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Career Services Center's southeast Bakersfield office, 1600 E. Belle Terrace.
Cal State Bakersfield plans to offer a class in risk and quality management this spring.
Instructor John Pryor, who has done risk management consulting work, stated that it is unique for a single class to deal with risk management as well as quality management.
The class is an addition to CSUB's OSHA Safety and Environmental Safety and Management program.
Course information is available by contacting Pryor by phone, 588-1100, or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.

TWIW Insurance Services LLC has applied for a name change.
The Bakersfield company was formed in 2005 when Tolman & Wiker Insurance merged with InWest Insurance Services.
But since then, management has decided the TWIW name is hard to pronounce and remember, and it doesn't reflect the company's local, independent ownership and personal service.
TWIW said in a news release that it has asked for permission from the California Department of Insurance to change its name to Tolman & Wiker Insurance Services.
