Valentine's Day has brought out the best in Bakersfield's hospitality industry.
Several Bakersfield hotels, restaurants and museums are offering special deals as part of the Bakersfield Convention and Visitors Bureau's Romance and Relax promotion.

The National Society of Hispanic MBAs now has a Bakersfield chapter -- and it's hosting a kickoff celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Padre Hotel's Prospect Lounge.
Working together with local professionals, it took alumni and students of Cal State Bakersfield's Master in Business Administration two years to earn "chapter in formation" status. The association has nearly 19,000 members and chapters in 38 cities.

StructureCast, a Bakersfield manufacturer of custom precast concrete products, has won three awards from a national trade group.
The company took second and third places in the National Precast Concrete Association's Creative Use of Precast competition. It won second place for its installation of 56 architectural precast panels at the Madina Center of North Stockton, an Islamic worship center. The third-place entry was its four-piece, 17-foot-long monument sign for Lebec's Tejon Ranch Co.
The association also awarded StructureCast one of four top honors in its Sustainability Awards competition. That honor recognized the company's work on a material recycling center as well as the two-story parking structure it built at Pomona College's South Campus.

Cognito Motorsports Inc., a Bakersfield manufacturer of after-market products for trucks and utility vehicles, has moved into a 25,000-square-foot space near Meadows Field.

Cal State Bakersfield's Small Business Development Center has announced the start of a year-long webinar series focusing on business topics.
The series, set for broadcast over the Internet every other Wednesday from 12:05 to 1 p.m., begins Feb. 6 with a presentation on crowdfunding, which helps entrepreneurs raise money for specific projects online. Other SBDC webinar topics are to include home-based food businesses and creative small business funding.
