Golden Queen Mining Co. Inc. officially opens its doors in Mojave Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting and open house at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the company's new offices, 15772 K St.

The West Vancouver, Canada-based company secured Kern County approval for its Soledad Mountain Project gold and silver mine in April 2010.

Golden Queen has employed hundreds of workers to complete infrastructure projects on the site. Some 160 people are expected to work there permanently.

 

Bakersfield's newest Jersey Mike's Subs opens Wednesday at 11350 Ming Ave.

The restaurant is the third for franchisees Stacy Knight and Carrie Asbury. They opened their first Jersey Mike's in April 2009 at 4715 Coffee Road, followed by another in April 2011 at 5120 Stockdale Highway. All three are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Through Sunday, the new location is hosting a fundraiser in which a regular sub is free in exchange for a minimum $1 donation to Children's Miracle Network. The deal requires a coupon, 10,000 of which have been distributed locally.

 

Oklahoma-based crafts retailer Hobby Lobby plans to open its first Bakersfield store Monday at the former Mervyns on California Avenue west of Highway 99.

The public is invited to a 9 a.m. grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the 56,000-square-foot store offering crafting and home decor goods.

The Bakersfield location is the chain's 18th in California. It has almost 600 stores nationwide.

 

The third annual Bounty of Kern County is coming Oct. 26 to the county fairgrounds' Sales Pavilion at South P Street and Ming Avenue.

Put on by the Kern County Farm Bureau and Young Farmers & Ranchers, the event is to celebrate the county's agricultural bounty with food, drink and live music.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and includes "Derby Races" featuring company-sponsored horses competing for cash prizes.

 

Battery Systems Inc. has leased 11,700 square feet of industrial space at 5455 Rosedale Highway, Unit B , Pacific Commercial Realty Advisors announced.

Mangus Rentals owns the 0.84-acre property.
