By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
Individuals and small business owners are invited to shred their personal documents at a free Tuesday event focused on preventing identity theft.
Sponsored by Allstate Insurance Co., the shredding event runs from 3 to 7 p.m. at the office of Allstate exclusive agent Shannon Hill, 2500 New Stine Road.
A limit of 40 pounds -- about six file boxes -- applies.
Kern County farmers and farmland owners are invited to participate in an Aug. 21 Tulare hearing on proposed changes to regional waste discharge rules.
The 10 a.m. event at Southern California Edison's Energy Education Center, 4175 S. Laspina St., is to focus on new regulations being developed by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board.
After hearing presentations by board staff and other speakers, participants will have about three minutes to comment on the proposed rules.
The rules would bring various changes to local discharge practices, including significant new costs, reviews, paperwork and other new requirements.
The meeting notice may be found online at: waterboards.ca.gov/centralvalley/board_info/meetings/1208tulare_ag.pdf.
