Six Bakersfield restaurant closures are KFC's loss, Popeyes' gain
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
Six KFC restaurants in Bakersfield have closed and will become part of the rival Popeyes fast food chain as a result of a bankruptcy sale.
Statewide, 14 franchise-owned KFCs changed hands under the sale despite KFC Corp.'s efforts to support a franchisee's purchase offer, corporate spokesman Rick Maynard wrote in an email Wednesday.
The closed Bakersfield locations are:
* 705 Airport Drive
* 9606 Rosedale Highway
* 1400 Union Ave.
* 1221 Mt. Vernon Ave.
* 1449 White Lane
* 2700 Panama Lane
"We understand the disappointment of our many loyal customers in Bakersfield, and we share that disappointment," Maynard wrote. "KFC remains committed to this market and intends to have an even stronger presence in this area in the future."
He noted that other KFCs remain open in Bakersfield. They are at 3011 Brundage Lane, 2402 Columbus St. and 6320 White Lane.
