Worth noting: Public comment opens on review of Tejon Ranch conservation plan, more
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
A 30-day public comment period opened Friday for an environmental review of Tejon Ranch Co.'s habitat conservation plan.
The review covers the Tehachapi Uplands Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan and an associated Implementing Plan. Both are closely related to a four-year-old agreement Tejon Ranch struck with environmental groups allowing the company to develop part but not all of its sprawling property in and around Lebec.
An environmental review was required because residential and commercial development proposed as part of the company's Tejon Mountain Village project, combined with ongoing ranch activities, would entail an "incidental take" of 27 plants and animals, including the California condor and three other endangered species.
The review is available online at federalregister.gov. Comments on it and the conservation plan can be sent to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by email at fw8tumshcp@fws.gov, on by mail to Roger Root, Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office, 2493 Portola Road, Suite B, Ventura, Calif., 93003.
