AHRON HAKIMI has been named Mineta Transportation Institute’s first Alumnus of the Year. Hakimi, executive director of the Kern Council of Governments, earned a master’s degree in transportation management in 2003 at the institute’s program at San Jose State University. He served as a colonel in the Army Reserve’s Logistics Corps and as a supervising transportation engineer with Caltrans. Hakimi also worked as the lead state official for the Thomas Roads Improvement Program, a multi-agency coalition that has worked on several local transportation projects. The institute concentrates on surface transportation policy and transit management issues.
