Arvin police released more information Saturday about the Friday SWAT standoff during which murder suspect Adam Arellano, 22, was arrested.
Arellano was wanted for the murder of Reynaldo Daniel Abrego, 29, shot and killed on Aug. 30 in Arvin. On Friday morning, Arvin police were investigating an unrelated case when they heard Arellano was in a house on the 300 block of B Street in Arvin. Just before noon, the Arvin police, State Parole Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshall’s Office personnel went to the house.
Arellano refused to exit, and while the standoff continued, officers contacted the Arvin Union School District because of concern over a nearby school bus stop. The school district moved the stop and called parents of students who were affected.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office SWAT was called at 12:30 p.m., but it wasn't until after tear gas was used that Arellano came out of the house at about 4 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident, according to Arvin Police Lt. Olan Armstrong.
Arellano was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of murder and gang involvement.
