Election Notebook: Arvin and Delano officials endorse Salas for Assembly
By The Bakersfield Californian
Bakersfield Councilman Rudy Salas announced Monday that he's received support from top officials in the cities of Arvin and Delano for his bid for state Assembly.
Arvin Mayor Tim Tarver and Delano Mayor Ricardo Chavez, plus all the members of the councils of each city have officially endorsed Salas for the new 32nd Assembly District.
The newly drawn 32nd District boundaries roughly mirror those of what now make up the 30th District and was created with redistricting last August. It includes parts of western Kern County plus Arvin and Lamont and areas of east Bakersfield. It also has all of Kings County.
Salas, elected to the Bakersfield City Council in 2010, is so far the only person who has announced an intention to run for the seat.
"Rudy continues to be a friend and advocate for the citizens of Arvin," Tarver said in a press release issued by Salas' campaign. "Rudy's 'hands-on' approach and ability to bring people together to solve difficult problems is exactly what we need in our state right now, and I am proud to support him."
"Rudy has been a regional advocate for the area and has been instrumental in the economic development in the city of Delano," Chavez said. "Rudy's ability to cut through bureaucracy to get things done for the people makes him a natural leader and I am proud to support him."
