Molen oversees The Californian's Interactive Media, Information Systems and Market Research divisions, and has active management roles with News and Special Publications. A key focus is the Interactive Media division, which operates two dozen local websites and a variety of mobile apps and services.
Molen has worked for The Californian in its news and online operations since 1988. Over that time he has jumped from job to job, including vice president of Interactive Media, managing editor, New Media manager, assistant managing editor/days, features editor, assistant city editor, county government reporter, oil/energy reporter and copy editor/page designer.
Before coming to Bakersfield, he worked in newsroom positions at the Tulare Advance-Register and The Fresno Bee. Molen graduated from Fresno State University in 1985 with a journalism degree in news-editorial and radio-TV.
Molen was born in Pueblo, Colo., and lived briefly in Eugene, Ore., but has spent the large majority of his life basking in the many wonderful charms of the San Joaquin Valley. He and his wife, Sandi, have two teen-age daughters, too many pets and too many overdue home-improvement projects. In his spare time, he likes to play ice hockey, travel and listen to punk, Southern soul and power pop.
